Reentry and Transition

ICS's professional staff members offer their own experiences of cross-cultural ministry along with counseling and/or direction skills.

Each one's reentry story is unique so the ICS team will custom design the multi-step process in response to the individual or group's needs and wishes.

ICS can host the reentry and transition workshop in the Detroit, MI area or a site near the group.

If desired follow-up coaching service is also available for an agreed upon time frame.

Passing over and coming back, it seems, is the spiritual adventure of our times — John S. Dunne, The Way of all the Earth

When returning to their passport country, many missionaries have difficulty reentering their "home" culture.

The process of reentry and transition takes time and usually assistance from others who understand the dynamics of crossing over and coming back.

To assist with the reentry and transition process Intercultural Consultation Services (ICS) provides a hospitable, nurturing and safe environment for those:

  • Sharing their mission story
  • Desiring an opportunity to debrief their mission experience
  • Seeking time and guidance to recognize the giftedness of the experience
  • Recognizing the trauma of having lived in violent and/or poverty areas
  • Discerning the call to return or choose another mission
  • Identifying transition skills for movement into a new ministry.
  • Integrating the experience into one's "new self"
  • Experiencing a type of "reverse culture shock."
