Preparing for Cross-Cultural Ministry

The focus of the program is on the specifics of discernment, assessment, and preparation for intercultural living and ministry. The month-long program has two principle goals:

Elements of the Program

  1. The application procedure assists the participants to enter into a process of self-exploration and decision-making about their readiness for cross-cultural work or new ministry. This is achieved through:
    • Completion of the application.
    • Writing a structured autobiography.
    • Recommendation from the applicant's sending group.
    • And prescribed psychological assessment.
  2. One month residential program based on holistic principles will include:
    • Weekly interviews with program director.
    • Weekly interviews with counselor.
    • Input sessions related to mission, cultural diversity, interpersonal relationships, intercultural living and ministry.
    • Twice weekly group sessions for process and support.
    • Ongoing opportunity for personal and communal prayer and reflection
    • Directed retreat.

Program is designed to assist in:

  1. Considering a ministry that requires a dramatic change in audience, skills and setting from previous ministry experiences.
  2. Changing cultural settings of living and ministry within United States.
  3. Considering ministry overseas or ministry in a new cultural setting.
