Acculturation
Acculturation is the process by which a person adjusts to another culture. This process necessitates understanding and acquiring of certain skills to successfully adjust to one's new environment.
Services Offered
ICS will custom-design workshops:
- For those who will be working with and/or living with the international newcomers.
- For the parishoners and parish leaders who are receiving international ministers.
ICS will provide mentoring services for both the individual and/or receiving group.
General Goals
- To assist religious and priests in adjusting to their new environment and life in the U.S.A.
- To understand that acculturation is an ongoing process of personal and cultural transformation.
Workshop Includes
- Framework for understanding culture
- Exploration of personal roots and one's cultural identity
- Challenges presented by differing cultural values and mindsets in the U.S.
- Cultural Adjustment Process
- History of Catholic Church in the U.S. and diocese/congregation
- Issues of intercultural communication
- Basic attitudes and significant shifts in cross-cultural mission

Sunday, April 27 2009 by 5:30 pm through Friday, May 1 at noon at Maryknoll Mission Center, Ossining, NY

$700 (Tuitition + R&B) for 5-day workshop
